The
Famicom Disk System version
of Bubble Bobble
is notable not only because
it is an excellent version,
but also because it comes
presented inside a cutesy
soft plastic pencil case,
with a large fold-out instruction
manual.
A truly unique form of packaging,
matched only by Taito's Disk
System version of Kiki
Kaikai (1986).
Very hard to find complete.
Standard Disk System case
& disc inside soft plastic
wallet, fold-out instruction
manual. |

The
MSX2 puts up a rather good
version of Bubble Bobble
- technically and visually
this is remarkably similar
to the Famicom port.
Today it has become a very
sought-after version - very
valuable in good condition.
Large plastic case, 1Mbit
cartridge, manual. |

The
Mark III 'Final Bubble Bobble'
blows away the Famicom and
MSX2 versions, presenting
larger and more colourful
characters, superb playability,
and a few bonus features.
The best version of the 8-Bit
era.
Standard Mark III packaging,
2Mbit cartridge, instruction
manual. |

The
X68000 offers enough power
to accurately reproduce the
arcade original, and it does
just that: Dempa's conversion
is nigh-on superb, near-perfect
in every way.
Shame it's so hard to find.
Plastic box packaging, 1 x
5inch floppy, instructions. |

The
FM Towns also hosts a superb
port of Bubble Bobble,
very close to the X68000
version in the technological
stakes.
It's just a shame that the
CD-ROM is under-used: there is no CD
remixed soundtrack, only a
beep-perfect rendition of
the original arcade BGM.
Large plastic box packaging,
FM Towns CD-ROM disc in case,
manual. |

The
GB Bubble Bobble
presents a different set of
(scrolling) stages and a brand
new storyline.
But the hardware inevitably struggles: the scrolling
stages are confusing
and the bubbles constantly
flicker.
Standard small-size GB packaging,
1Mbit cartridge, monochrome
booklet. |

Re-worked
'Taito Memorial' version of
Bubble Bobble for
Game Boy Color.
The visuals are vastly improved
over the first GB version
but here there are a few minor
playability problems - bubbles
can be a little tough to burst
at times.
