Alex Kidd no Miracle World
1 Nov 1986

It's hard to raise the subject of the Mark III / Master System without mentioning Alex Kidd in Miracle World, and squaring it up against Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. (1985).
In most territories both games came packaged with their respective hardware, and though Alex Kidd is nowhere near as accomplished a game as SMB, Master System owners still got themselves a great deal.
Sega games have always had a tougher, sharper, and more rigid style of play than Nintendo's, and this game is no exception. In fact it's one tough little cookie; that irritated a fair few players over the years with its punishing difficulty and tightrope gameplay. Each jump must be pixel-perfect and every attack perfectly timed... Skill, level memorisation and meticulous item management are required if you want to see the end of this one.
Alex Kidd will forever remain in Mario's shadow, yet it remains a classic in every sense: many players honed their skills right here, and even today some savage gaming lessons can be learnt in Miracle World.
